Slab & Pier
How Slab & Pier compares foundation repair companies
Austin companies appear in alphabetical order. We have not published numeric scores. Use the available permit and review facts to decide which companies to contact and what to ask them. A missing record is shown as unknown, not treated as proof of poor work. Scores will come later, only after we have checked evidence for every category and published the exact point rules.
Who appears
We list foundation repair businesses serving the area when we can establish which business the listing describes. We check available city permit and Texas business records, company websites and other public sources. We do not list referral websites as repair companies. Branches under one owner count as one business in a city comparison. A company can be listed even when a particular permit or state record is unavailable; the gap stays visible.
What a future score will use
| Category | Weight | Evidence required |
|---|---|---|
| Engineering and inspection process | 25% | An engineer's letter or report from an Austin job, with homeowner details removed, and a checked Texas professional engineer license. The point rules will distinguish an independent evaluation before repair and an engineer's letter afterward. |
| Customer reviews | 25% | Dated Google review aggregates. The planned rules adjust a rating for review count, cap volume points and consider recent reviews. We do not use complaint-handling points in the first version because we have no permitted source for them. |
| Local permit history | 20% | City of Austin residential foundation repair permits in the Repair class, including the timing of permitted work and the share of closed permits with a final inspection. Raw permit volume is shown as context, not rewarded by itself. |
| Current insurance | 15% | A current general liability certificate confirmed with the insurer or issuing agent. An image of a certificate alone is not verification. |
| Written warranty | 15% | The full written terms, including coverage, length, transfer rules, fees and conditions that can void coverage. A short website summary is not enough to score this category. |
A company's website can explain its own services or policies. We label the statements we show as the company's claims. They earn no points until supported by the required record or document.
Google ratings and review counts appear on profiles where we matched a listing, with a check date. The matched listing may be outside Austin; we show its city when recorded and say when it was not. A listing's city does not establish where the reviewed jobs occurred. Better Business Bureau, Trustpilot, Yelp and Reddit ratings, reviews and complaints do not feed the current comparison or planned first score. We use Reddit discussions only to find general homeowner questions. We do not copy review text into company profiles.
When a company can receive a score
All five categories must be documented. If a company has fewer than 10 Austin permits, it receives 10 of the 20 permit points when the other categories are documented, with that exception labeled on its profile. The remaining point thresholds must pass our labeled-set review before any score goes live. We do not rescale a partial score to make it look complete.
When scores become available, scored companies will be ordered by whole-number score. Equal scores will share a rank and appear alphabetically within that rank; unscored companies will follow alphabetically. A paid placement, if ever offered, will be labeled where it appears and will never change a score. Claiming a listing, sending evidence and requesting a correction are free.
Reading Austin permit figures
Our Austin permit count covers the City's residential foundation repair Repair records issued since January 1, 2024 and attributed to the company we list. It does not measure all of a company's jobs or work outside Austin. A low count is not a quality finding.
For companies with at least 10 closed permits, the completion figure is the number with a final inspection divided by the number marked Final or Expired. Open, withdrawn and void permits are left out. The figure reports city record status, not workmanship. We show it only after sending the company its attributed permit list and calculation and allowing at least 14 days for a reply. A changed calculation needs a new review before display.
Sources, updates and corrections
Displayed permit and Google figures carry source-check dates. We keep source checks separate from the date a page was last changed. We will publish a dated method version and change log before scores appear, and recalculate scores from the accepted evidence when the method changes.
If a listing has an error or needs context, email corrections@slabandpier.com. Corrections and company replies are free. See our corrections and right-of-reply page for what to send and our response times.
